PTO Minutes Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) Meeting Tuesday, October 20, 2009 6:30–7:45pm – Media Center
A regular meeting of the Parent Teacher Organization was called to order by Shawn Evanow. No minutes from a previous meeting were read because the PTO was dormant during the 2008-09 school year. Shawn welcomed everyone to the meeting and explained the benefit of being a PTO vs. a PTA (ref. www.ptotoday.com). The first order of business was to hold officer elections. Each officer job had only one self-nominated person put up for the position. President – Shawn Evanow Vice President – Josette Enriquez Secretary - Kathy Daly Treasurer – Hengameh Rahmanou Hospitality – Ann Mararac Kathy moved the membership accept the slate of officers as listed above. Chris Cameron seconded the motion. All members present voted unanimously to accept this slate of officers. No one was opposed. In accordance with the bylaws (art. V, sec. b) the signers on the checking account will be the Treasurer, President, and Vice-President. Therefore; Hengameh Rahmanou, Shawn Evanow and Josette Enriquez will replace Linda Handwerk, Diana Chapman and Aurora Rojas as signers on the account at Bank of America. Shawn stated that PTO membership application envelopes were sent home with all students in their MAP class last week. So far, only 20+ returned. Ideas suggested for increasing membership were: a contest between MAP classes, award spirit points to MAP classes and teacher incentives. No specific plan was decided upon. Chris Cameron offered to send out email broadcasts from the PTO to keep everyone informed. She requested that all members send their contact information to her at cameron.chris@att.net and that she in turn would send out mass emails. Kelli Knapp, Leadership coordinator, provided a list of Leadership activities for 2009-2010. Shawn suggested that the PTO review the list for events that we could support. With that list in mind, the PTO members decided our immediate focus would be on: 1. PTO Membership Drive – implement plan to increase membership 2. Parent Center – work with Angie Rollins to utilize new parent center 3. Canned Food Drive – Nov. 9-13 – help Leadership collect & deliver Megan McElroy introduced the Art-to-Grow-On program. Megan has received permission and funding from Mr. Ball to start the program on campus. So far only one teacher has signed up but she is hoping for more to follow. Megan is looking for volunteers to act as docents. Please contact her is you are interested. Mr. Ball announced that Dana is losing two office personnel next week due to budget cuts. He requested volunteers to fill in the missing hours. If you are available, please contact Mr. Ball. As a group we set the meeting dates for the rest of the year.
